Hornets Advance 5 to MHSAA State Finals

Williamston Wrestling advance 5 grapplers to the MHSAA State Finals in Detroit Michigan (Full Tournament Brackets Here). The Hornets entered the MHSAA 12-3 Individual Regionals with 7 athletes. At the end of the day, the Hornets had 5 wrestlers in the finals.

Luke Mahaney (So.) competed in the Regional Championship finals falling Dec 5-0 to his opponent from Michigan Center to claim the 2nd place finish.

On the Consolation Finals mat, Williamston had 4 athletes compete to punch their ticket to the State Finals.

  • Caeleb Ishmael (Coloma) 39-8, Fr. over Greg Dion (Williamston) 34-16, Fr. (Fall 2:13)
  • Ryker Johnecheck (Williamston) 45-6, Fr. over Jacob Orweller (Perry) 32-10, So. (Fall 0:14)
  • Calvin Kittendorf (Williamston) 38-5, So. over Ray Woodall (South Haven) 35-10, Fr. (Dec 5-2)

The Hornet advanced 3 Freshman and 2 Sophomores to the finals. This is likely the first time in Hornet Wrestling history that 3 Freshman have ever advance to the big show.
